Keep extension settings in a dedicated browser profile

Use a persistent profile for an authorized browser workflow, configure the extension through its popup, and avoid sharing one profile across running processes.

Separate automation settings from everyday browsing

A dedicated browser profile can retain the extension’s configured key and preferences between runs. Keeping it separate from your daily browsing profile avoids unintentionally sharing personal cookies, extensions, and login state with an automated workflow.

Choose an explicit profile directory and document which application owns it. Use one running browser process per directory. Treat profile cleanup as an operational action: deleting it can remove saved settings and change how the next run behaves.

Configure the extension before unattended work

Download the released Chromium package and follow the installation instructions. Open its popup, choose the appropriate free or paid setup, and enable recognition for the intended workflow. The SDK configuration helpers can set manifest defaults before installation. Saved popup preferences in the profile take precedence over those defaults.

A minimal profile record for your application can contain:

  • The browser executable and version.
  • The extracted extension path and release identifier.
  • The dedicated profile path.
  • Whether the popup setup was completed.

Keep the actual API key out of a general-purpose configuration report. Use an independently revocable key for the installation.

Wait for a meaningful completion condition

The extension helps with recognition; it does not fill the rest of your form or guarantee the protected action succeeds. A browser script should wait for the integration’s completion condition, then verify the intended application result.

Avoid using a fixed pause as evidence that a challenge completed. A slow task, disabled extension, or exhausted allowance can all exceed a guessed delay. Preserve error messages and identifiers when diagnosing an interrupted run.

Test profile lifecycle changes

Exercise a new profile, a configured existing profile, a revoked key, and an updated extension. Confirm whether settings survive the update procedure you use. Do not interpret the loss of configuration as a model regression.

Extension automation documentation contains browser-specific examples for Chrome for Testing, nodriver, Playwright, and Selenium. Browser-profile hygiene describes what to record during evaluations, and extension downloads covers package integrity independently of profile settings.
